After completing his latest project, the Mansfield Dam, Herman Brown, founder of Brown &amp; Root came upon the idea of designing a style of building to complement the City of Austin to express the new wealth our country was enjoying.</p>

<p>The Brown Building was designed by the leading Austin architect of the day, Charles Henry Page. Today, the 90 lofts within the Brown Building are located in the heart of Austin’s Art District, 2 blocks off Congress and only 4 blocks from the Warehouse District. The developer sold his last loft in 2004 and units are now available on the resale market.</p>
<p>The Brown Building is declared Historical. Each condo home owner in the building receives a substantial discount on their real estate taxes in addition to their homestead exemption. This is a very attractive bonus to the building. The Brown Building is the only condo project downtown that offers this exemption. With tax reduction of this size, buyers can qualify for a larger mortgage when purchasing a condo in the Brown Building.</p>
